Milestone Project

Objectified Response Taking it back to our first assignment woooooo! Anyway, looking back on this I honestly feel disappointed in this work. It's very plain and while I did do that to keep it looking clean and minimalist, I feel like compared to other works it was just so safe and boring. I was inspired by the one from the video of course, and my previous student works. I wanted to do it in my own way with my own style. Mainly, just not happy with this work and I think it could've been done way better. Mesh Mashup For mesh mashup i had a lot of fun in the first stage coming up with all these weird ideas ad trying to make up storylines for my works. The object I originally went with was my rubber ducky, but I think as we can see from the disgusting mess that is the second stage, I rightfully changed my mind and made something much more well put together. I think the process of going through the stages a second time allowed me to learn from my mistakes and to understand the soft

For this assignment I honestly just let the computer do what it wanted with the weird shapes I made. I didn't focus on making complex forms as I wanted it to be something that could work well with anyone else's work. I mainly focused on the overall silhouette of the form, or its texture. I kind of just wanted to have fun with it and see where it goes.  Here are my 6 original shapes. Some aren't perfect but I figured that would be something to focus more on when combining shapes. For the hybrid, I was partnered with Brianna and I'm glad I was. We both seemed to have a similar outlook on this assignment and to not be so serious about crafting something extremely complex or making it look complicated.  These were Brianna's 6 shapes. As soon as we were partnered we decided that it would be good to combine textures and forms, instead of trying to attach to objects together to make one. This idea sort of evolved into creating a fun little creature when Brianna added a fa

Papercraft: Final Revision

Image
For this week we worked on our final version of our papercraft object. After feedback from the class, I (naturally) decided to redesign Bonnie all over again. I felt that there were lots of things to be improved upon and that overall my design didn't look like Bonnie all that much. So, I directly referenced a photo of Bonnie and drew out a flat version of my final design.  I then inserted this image into rhino to reference while making the new concept. Sadly, a few of the details i wanted to add didn't work out so I didn't add an indentation to the mouth, and I couldn't find a material that I felt was good enough to create the eyes that I wanted.  Overall, i was satisfied with the new design, as I simplified it a lot, but I think all the changes made work better and look cleaner than the last. The process this time around was much easier thanks to having sturdier paper, larger tabs, and less pieces. I actually had a lot of fun making this and seeing the final result is

Paper Craft: Printed Templates

For this week we had to fully assemble our first prototype of our papercraft design. I enjoyed scoring and cutting all the various pieces but gluing everything together? Not my cup of tea. I found through my process of gluing it all together that I had made my shapes too complex, and having so many sides and angles to a piece was very hard to work with, especially when gluing by hand. I had to slightly alter some pieces as now that they were unfolded, there were slight gaps and the paper wouldn't line up.  The first altercation was to fix the top tabs on the main headpiece and on the top ear pieces. The mouth piece when printed had some issues as well, the top separate piece no longer lined up with the main part of the mouth, for the prototype I just cut some of the paper away, but I will probably simplify how many angles there are in certain areas. The nose turned out fine but the eyes I realized were much too complex and were extremely hard to glue down onto the head later on. F

Papercraft Objects: Printed Templates

For this assignment I ended up refining one of my ten originals into a much more complex shape thanks to being shown a great method in class, where using polygons to create more rounded appearing objects. Since I decided to remodel one of my objects, there aren't a ton of details going on within the work, but I do want to add many through single layers of paper stacked on each other for the final.  I liked this new shape much more than the previous design, and giving the head the dome shaped eyes I think makes it sort of creepy as well. I want to take this another step further though and possibly add a movable jaw, and make this to scale to fit my head. As this first prototype isn't big enough because I made it so the largest head piece fit on one page of paper, but to fit y head it'll have to be a fair amount larger, so I'll try to figure out the scaling for that. I'm decently satisfied with how the prints look and I'm really looking forward to cutting and pas
