PAPERCRAFT OBJECTS: DIGITAL SAMPLES

Image
For this assignment, we had to create a minimum of 10 papercraft samples, all which had to be items that held some significance to us.  1) Nintendo Switch Controller I think if I were to go even further with this one, I would like to make the full switch and have the controllers be able to slide in and out of the sides like a real one. 2) Safety Pin Safety pins hold a lot of meaning to me and its something I would like to get a tattoo of. 3) Keropi Mat One of my close friends owns a keropi bath mat and I wanted to include it because of how often I see it, and how it makes me think of them. 4) Vending Machine I currently live in the dorms at SAIT, so there are plenty of vending machines that constantly tempt me. 5) Lava Lamp When I was younger I used to own about 3 lava lamps and I had them all lined up on my dresser.  6) Bonnie Mask Because of quarantine, I fell back into my old interests and rewatched a lot of FNAF videos, and I still honestly enjoy this game a lot and its complicate

Papercraft: Research

Right off the bat I decided on focusing on Hari & Deepti, as that type of papercraft has been one I've always admired. They make paper cut light boxes, using water color paper, they layer the work and use LED lights to backlight their pieces. Most of their works play off the use of the colored lights, as they include flames, stars, planets, city lights, etc. Their work is so full of storytelling and imagination. They create full on worlds with their papercraft and create such detailed beautiful works. As I understand their work, there are common themes in certain pieces, such as the hunters we can see in the distance in the work pictured above. Mainly, each piece can stand alone and carry its story through its one image. The way their works appear when backlit is strikingly different from when there is no light on the piece.   Each piece has an immense amount of depth that we don't recognize when it is lit. Each layer provides a new shade, a new color, without there being

Mesh Mashup: HD Renders

For this project I ended up changing my object. I did this because after learning how to use all these programs I figured I could do a better job the second time around, plus I was somewhat disappointed with my last object and the quality of my work. With this new object I think it looks much more refined and clean than my previous object. I chose to do my Easter egg island object, but when I got to refining it in mesh mixer I added more objects to create a small story to the work. This also allowed me to play with more materials when hd rendering in rhino. I added a giant crab and a tiny little cat stretching on the beach chair. Since the island is in an egg holder, its like its the giant crabs breakfast. I also played with materials a lot, and applied textures that wouldn't normally be used on the objects. Overall, I'm much happier with this work than my previous one and I hope that the improvement shows well.  I had a fun time playing with light and all the different textur
